The Department of Economics is established in 1972 under the erstwhile Sri Venkateswara (SV) University PG Centre. Following the establishment of Vikrama Simhapuri (VS) University for Nellore district in 2008, the SV University PG centre came under the jurisdiction of VS University and the department of Economics also brought under VS University in 2012. Over the last 50 years the department has contributed a lot to the Indian society and economy through its teaching and research activities. Many of the alumni students from this department occupied important policy making positions at the regional and national level.

Teaching and Research

The Department of economics is undertaking regular teaching of M.A. Economics course since its inception. It has been regularly revising its curriculum by reflecting the changing economic environment of the country and world. The students are thoroughly trained both theory and policy issues in economics.

The department of economics also undertaking research activities and produced good number of Ph. D.s since its inception. With the financial aid of various funding agencies viz. UGC, ICSSR and other funding agencies research projects have been taken up by department faculty on several contemporary issues of economic significance.
