The Department of Telugu started in the academic year 2011-2012.The department has been providing instructions in M.A., Telugu language and literature. At present the year intake of the students is about 44, for a period of two years duration.

In addition to teaching M.A., Telugu course department is actively engaged in doing research also. The department has conducted nearly seven national seminars, Two International Seminars and one work shop. The department has published seminar papers in a book form with ISBN number.

The department has introduced two new papers in M.A, Telugu syllabus..One is Regional literature i.e,. Nellore district literary history and the other one is women writers in Telugu.

Vision

To teach students the importance of mother tongue and the ways to protect it from getting extinct.

To enable students to build their career in their selective path and making them job ready according to the prevailing situations.

Mission

To extend the historical perspectives of our culture and heritage to future generations.

To inculcate among students, the moral values and ethics mentioned in our Ancient Telugu Literature and Modern Literature.

To emphasize on topics such as Origin of Telugu Language, Structure of Telugu Language, History of Telugu Literature and Folk Literature

The Telugu Department has introduced the following two P.G. Diploma courses in.

1).P.G. Diploma in journalism and Mass communications

2). P.G. Diploma in Translation

The department has published the following two books.

1). Jashuva saahithi samalochana.

2).Nellore Zilla saahithi sarvasvam.

6. Nellore zilla saahithi Sarvasvam- Two day National Seminar on 6th and 7th April-2018.

7.  Sri Gurram joshuva-49th vardanthi celebrate in national Webinar on.24.07.2020.

8. Telugu maadhyamaalu-savaallu three day international Webinar Organized in Dept.of.Telugu VSU, Nellore collabration with Press Academy of Andhrapradesh, Vijayawada, on 24-26th August, 2020.

9. Navabharatha swapnikudu-Gurram joshuva-Natinal webinar on 24.07.2021

10. Telugu bhasha prayogaalu-parishodhanalu-Two day National seminar Organized VSU,Nellore in Collabration with Telugu  Sanskrit Academy of Andhrapradesh,Vijayawada, on 29-30th August-2021.

Apart from the above programs the department has organized Guest Lectures by inviting senior most professors from other universities and subject expert in Telugu. The Department has also conducted class room seminars in which the students present research articles.

The faculty members who are fully qualified (Ph.D.,NET or SET) in the department of Telugu and published a number of books and articles, and  actively engaged in Academic activities. 

The  university has appointed 4 Academic consultants on contract Basis.
