      The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 2014 as an independent Department owes its origin to Vikrama Simhapuri University, Nellore. The Department of Mathematics has started M.Sc., Applied Mathematics (Self-finance) course in July 2014 at VSU, Nellore. From the beginning the student’s in take  is  40.

The objectives of the department are to impart good quality teaching to the students for continued well-being of the people through excellence in studies and exploration. To provide a student-centered and professions-oriented higher education and to promote positive relationships among students, faculty and staff that enhance the learning experience a fruitful and outstanding one for future application in a dynamic world.

From the Academic year 2019-20 onwards Department offers Gold medal for the students who secured first rank in the all semester examinations. All the staff members  contributes to the development of Dept. Of Mathematics in all spheres. Some versatile Professors from other universities are also invited to deliver guest lectures on current topics for the benefit of the students.

VISION AND MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT

VISION

To centre stage Mathematical knowledge in the curriculum; instill analytical and logical thinking among students and promote Mathematical thought as an important area of human thought.

             To enable and empower the women students - especially from the weaker sections of society with a rural background, with hard and soft skills and human values that contribute for the acquisition and development of a good career and multidimensional empowerment.

MISSION

  • To encourage students to conduct student projects to develop their analytical and logical thinking. 

  • To prepare the students attempt all National level examinations and state level examinations like CSIR-NET,APSET and APPSC JL,DL  etc….

  • To conduct faculty training programmes through invited talks or workshops.

  • To establish industry links to develop mathematical models and help the industry.

  • To conduct outreach programmes for the socially marginalized students. 

 TEACHING FACULTY :

The Department at present is having one  Academic Consultant and two Guest Faculties . The faculty members are well qualified and  have research experience.

The teaching staff members of the department have published more than 20 peer reviewed research articles in various standard journals and have attended several (30) National/International conferences and seminars.

 TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCESS

  • Black board teaching along with teaching through LCD projectors. 

  • Regular seminars conducted to improve student’s knowledge and communication skills.

  • Regular Students Counseling and Monitoring

  • Students are encouraged and trained to appear for GATE, CSIR-UGC-NET, SET and Other Competitive Examinations

  • Performance of students monitored through periodical tests, group discussions etc. 

EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

Students are encouraged to   Participate in NSS activities , blood donation campain, Sports & cultural activities.  

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

              As the College is conferred with Autonomy Board of Studies meetings were organized and Curriculum was modified to some extent.  The suggestions and ideas obtained from various bodies is thoroughly discussed by the experts in the Academic Council and carefully incorporated in the curriculum.  Feedback was taken regularly from students and other stakeholders. Besides the core syllabus, the students are given many options to learn Skill and Knowledge based electives and Certificate courses

            The college has well experienced and qualified lecturers to teach all the courses.  Student centred learning was encouraged through various methods like brain storming, group discussions, seminars, exhibitions, poster presentations, workshops etc.  Use of ICT in teaching & learning was enhanced. Lessons from YoutubeVideos;  online Lessons are used in teaching / learning process.  Constant review of testing and evaluation patterns encourages creativity, originality and analytical thinking.  Faculty members are motivated to design contemporary, skill based and value added courses.

EXAMINATION PATTERN

The Scheme of pattern  is proposed to allocate 80 marks for Term End Examination (Semester) and 40 marks for the Continuous Internal Assessment test.

EVENTS ORGANIZED

1. On Dec 22nd 2019,  Department of Mathematics conducted National level Workshop on Recent Advances in Pure and Applied Mathematics

2. Conducted One National Webinar (Online) on “Importance of Research Metrics: An overview on Scopus and web of Sciences” .
