I am by direction to inform you that as a part of Workshop, Dept. of English, Vikrama Simhapuri University, Nellore has organized on “Postmodern Women Voices” on 06th August, 2022. Mr. B. S. S. Bhagavan, Assistant Professor, Dept. of English, Vikrama Simhapuri University College, Nellore was the Distinguished Speaker of the day. In the Lecture, the Speaker made humble attempt to explain the state of women in a patriarchal society from the Vedic period to modern contemporary society. On the one hand, a woman is extolled to the heights of heaven by epitomizing her as a goddess, on the other hand, she is damned as an abla, a weakling who depends upon man for her existence and sustenance. The article traces the paradigm shift where a woman emerges despite all obstacles to hold her own identity in personal and professional life. Here woman is not put vis-a-vis man but woman is no more an accessory to man rather a companion, a life partner who is equal to him in every respect The Speaker explained that from time immemorial India has predominantly been a patriarchal society. Man occupied a prominent place in every sphere of life leaving woman as a fragile creature to depend upon him for everything beginning from her existence to her sustenance. In such a circumstance, a woman’s struggle in a male dominated society can be but easily fathomed. She was considered good for nothing when it came to do something intellectual or artistic. Going to school or reading and writing were not something she was capable of. Her only work was to bring forth children, rear them up and look after household works. Operating with such background, it was inconceivable that women were able to think, study or able to make decisions, could express themselves in the form' of speech, poetry, story telling, art etc. A. Sinha opines, “Women in India are, by and large victim of social, economic and political exploitation”. To depict a clear picture of an Indian woman and her role in the family, society, poetry, drama, philosophy, religion, art and literature one must delve deep into the timeline ever since India commenced recording its history and development in the form of writing the Lecture assessing the eclectic trends in literary theory and criticism in the posttheory age with a focus on three rubrics: the cultural turn, the historic turn, and the affective turn and concluded with a consideration of the current debate about symptomatic reading versus surface reading. The speaker demonstrated how some of the postmodern feminist writers depict their women in their literature. It’s also highlighted about the various social and feminist approaches of the woman writers whose presentation is a great analysis with their new consciousness. In this lecture he discussed briefly about the woman writers who present their contemporary woman characters in their discourse. In this lecture he tried to prove that the post-modern Indian feminist writers are genuine in the aspect of their feminist consciousness. In the inaugural session, Prof. G. M.
